Richard Allen "Blue" Woods – Hiltons, VA
Rick Woods, 57, Hiltons, VA went home with Jesus Tuesday morning, January 28, 2014 at 6:20 a.m. at his residence.
Rick was born in Washington County, VA on June 23, 1956 to Thelma Leonard Woods and the late R.J. Woods.
Rick was a born again Christian, member, and proud bell ringer of Big Cut Baptist Church.
He loved the Lord and studying about numbers and their Bible meanings. The number 28 means Eternal Salvation, how fitting for Rick for God to honor him that way. He was a light in a dark world, to everyone he met. He was always a gentleman who respected and edified everyone.
He was respected by all who knew him and was admired for his character and good heartedness. He always had a smile and always mentioned the Lord. Rick will always be an irreplaceable gift and presence in all of our lives; a friend who walked in when the rest of the world walked out.
In addition to his dad, R. J. Woods, his maternal grandparents, A.P. and Ellen Leonard; and his paternal grandparents, Garland and Florence Woods preceded him in death.
He is survived by the love of his life, his precious, loving, adoring wife, his "Baby", Peggy Annalee Woods, Hiltons, VA; his 3 daughters, who he loved dearly, Latisha Ann Woods, Kingsport, TN. Amber Jack Davis and husband, Zach, Colorado Springs, CO, and Heather Gibson and husband, Terry, Blountville, TN; one son he was so proud of, Matthew Kelly Lawson and wife, Shauna, Church Hill, TN; 9 grandchildren he adored, Shiann Stevens, Reanna Woods, Maxwell Crowder, Lily Davis, Bennett Davis, Preston Smith, Haley Bishop, Hank Lawson, and Levi "Blue" Lawson; his precious mother, Thelma Woods, Kingsport, TN; sisters, Joyce McLain and husband, Ed, Kingsport, TN and Sandra McMillion and husband, Randall, Bristol, VA; brothers, Roger Woods and wife, Karen, Gate City, VA and Ronnie "Runt" Woods, and wife, Neena, Kingsport, TN; mother and father-in-law, Bill and Mildred McConnell, Hiltons, VA; a very special cousin Lyle Woods, who loved and cared for Rick and took care of things for him when he was no longer able; his very special sister-in-law and nephew, Dana Lawson and Michael Gibson, who were so good, gentle, respectful, and honored to be his caregivers to the end. He loved them all and was more grateful than he could put into words to his very special co-workers at Jacobs, who since June have honored "Blue" with prayers, thoughts, and a special monetary gift that has kept his family going and made a way where there would have been none; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, January 30, 2014 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Hensley, Brother Ed McLain, and Rev. Andy Sensabaugh officiating. The True Faith Quartet will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2014 at Hermon United Methodist Church Memorial Cemetery, East Carter's Valley, Hiltons, VA. Roger Woods, Runt Woods, Matthew Lawson, Michael Gibson, Lyle Woods, Jason Carrico, Nicholas Lawson, and Eric Rowland will serve as pallbearers.
