Winston Edward Peters, 83, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 15. From his beginnings on the family farm, he made his way to Tennessee Eastman before starting several successful businesses in Weber City. He was admired for his hard work ethic that combined with an entrepreneurial mind. From travel trailers, country music, and even mud wrestling, there was no shortage to his ideas to succeed. No one else has ever orchestrated the movement of a large house through the middle of US 23 in Weber City. One person once described his business acumen by saying, "You could put him in the field naked in the morning and by the evening he would have a new suit and be driving a new bicycle." He was proceeded in death by his wife Ruby Carter Peters; parents Charles and Martha Ellen Peters; brothers - Connor (Katherine) Peters, Charles Peters, Marion (Sue) Peters; Sisters - Mildred Catron, Nina (Edgar) Quillen and Alma Martin. He is survived by his son, Michael Peters, Weber City, Va., son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Tara Peters, and grandson Ryan Peters, Kingsport, TN; sister, - Mary Ann (Gary) Poling, Beckley, W. VA.; his surrogate sons - Timothy and Roy (Ross) Gibson; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 -7 on July 18, at Gate City Funeral Home. A service will be conducted at 7 pm with the Reverend Charles Griffin officiating. The graveside service will be Friday at 10:45 am at Holston View Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Kent Taylor and Gary Whited. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to Holston View Methodist Church.
