Reba Williams, 97, Gate City, VA passed away, Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Ridgecrest Manor, Duffield, VA.
Mrs. Williams was born on June 30, 1915 at Rye Cove, VA to the late Miles Ervin and Cora Davidson Taylor. She lived most of her life in Scott County, VA and was a member of First Baptist Church of Weber City, VA.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Howard Swanson Williams (1991); step-mother, Charlotte Durham Taylor, ;brothers, Herbert, Kenneth, Edgar, Ervin, and Joe Taylor; sisters, Lula Mitchell and Dorothy Madison; step-sisters, Myrtle McDavid and Este Bishop; step-brothers, Ray and Johnnie Durham; special granddaughters, Karen Jean Sloan Smyth and Mona Rhea Skidmore Pennington; and son-in-law, Kenneth E. Sloan preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Skidmore and husband, Robert, Lakeland, FL and Jean Sloan, Dayton, OH; brother, Jack Taylor and wife, Dorothy, Clinchport, VA; step-brother, J.B. Durham and wife, Wilma, Kingsport, TN; sister-in-law, Vivian Taylor, Weber City, VA; and ex sister-in-law, Georgia Nell Taylor Anderson and husband, Roy, Gray, TN; grandchildren, Kimberly Thalen and husband, Doug, Rivers Junction, MI, Robin Grube and husband, Rick, Lakeland, FL, and Robert Sloan and wife, Kare, Dayton, OH; great grandchildren, Jennifer LaGow and Josh LaGow, Jackson, MI, Courtney Ralston and husband, Chris, Carrizo Springs, TX, Alivia and Savannah Sloan, Michael Eldrigde and Courtney Holladay, Dayton, OH, Nicole and Rachael Grube, Lakeland, FL, Jessica Burch and Colton Pennington, Carrizo Springs, TX; one great great grandchild, Christian Ralston, Carrizo Springs, TX; numerous nieces and nephew; special neighbors, Wayne and Dovenia Osborne, who took such special care of her for many years before her going to Brian Center; and Greg, April, Nikkii and Brandy Osborne, who were very special to her.
The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 5:00 p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Tim Hamilton and Rev. Lester Morelock officiating. Upward Way Quartet and Gary Taylor will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 4, 2013 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Robert Sloan, Wayne Osborne, Greg Osborne, Gary Taylor, Steven Taylor, and Roy Anderson will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., Monday to go in procession to the graveside service.
