Joe M. White, 78, Nickelsville, VA passed away, Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Joe was born in Scott County, VA on January 22, 1940, and was the son of the late McKinley and Lena (Stapleton) White.
He was retired from the Kingsport Press.
In addition to his parents, his loving wife, Vivian McConnell White; son-in-law, Harold Wright, Jr.; and sisters, Bonnie Vicars, Ada Muriel Minton, Louellva Parks, and Jaree Williams preceded him in death.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Regina Wright, Nickelsville, VA and Robin Humbert and Paul White, Jonesborough, TN; his son, David White and wife, Jennifer, Mount Carmel, TN; grandchildren, Autumn Hughes, Summer Cayetano, Courtney Humbert, Madison White, and Dustin White; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Vanderpool and husband, Vernon, Nickelsville, VA; and brothers, Rev. G. W. White and wife, June, Nickelsville, VA and James R. White and wife, Betty, Nickelsville, VA; along with several nieces, nephews, and special friends, Noonie Bennett, Joe “Quiency” Taylor, Mitch Taylor. and Fred White.
Per Mr. White’s wishes, a graveside service will be conducted at 11;00 a.m., Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA with Rev. Fred White officiating. Whitney White will be providing the music. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Gene McConnell, David Parks, Darrell Williams, Dale Minton, Eddie Parks, and Bo Taylor will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at Gate City Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m., Saturday to go in procession to the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, Joe’s request was to make donations to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma, OK 73123.
