George E. Whitaker – Gate City, VA
George Edward Whitaker, 75, Gate City, VA and formerly of Sullivan Gardens, TN passed away, Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at his residence.
George was born in Sullivan County, TN on June 2, 1944 and was the son of the late Guy and Viola (Ball) Whitaker.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Living Word Church of God, Gray, TN.
In addition to his parents; his sisters, Alice Greer and Helen Johnson; and brother, Roy Whitaker preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife, Judy (Willen) Whitaker; daughters, Connie Odle and husband, Rick, and Sherry Smith and husband, Burl; son Jeffrey Whitaker and wife, Denise; grandchildren, Brad Fields, Dustin Smith, Brittany Osborne, Whitney Crawford, Heath Smith, Amanda Whitaker, Randal LeBlanc, Wesley LeBlanc, and Beth Cofield; 18 great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Sunday, May 3, 2020 at Living Word Church of God, Cherry Street, Gray, TN. A funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Steve Guinn officiating. A eulogy will be given by his grandson, Pastor Heath Smith.
Military Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 4, 2020 at the Washington County Memorial Gardens, 113 Memory Gardens Road, Johnson City, TN by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honors Team. Brad Fields, Dustin Smith, Heath Smith, Justin Crawford, Whitney Crawford, Brittany Osborne, Amanda Whitaker, and Jeffrey Whitaker will serve as pallbearers. Rick Odle and Burl Smith will serve as honorary pallbearers.
