Barbara Wells Powers– Duffield, VA
Barbara Wells of Duffield, VA, (born and raised in Fairview) left her earthly home on the 14th of September, 2018, to live with her Heavenly Father. Our Mom was a strong woman who dedicated her life to family and God. Everyone loved her.
Barbara was born in Scott County, VA on April 16, 1941. She was the daughter of Mary Gilliam Maness.
She is preceded in death by mother, Mary Maness; husbands Virgil Wells, Sr. and Howard Johnson; brother, Leonard “Boots” Gilliam and granddaughter, Jennifer Duncan.
Surviving are her son, Virgil Wells, Jr. and wife Betty Jo; daughters, Lisa B. Osborne of Kingsport, TN, Sarah (Beth) Johnson, of the home and Dianna J. Shire and husband John; grandchildren, Destiny Johnson, John and wife Crystal Shire, Heather and husband Patrick Nichols, Kayla Senior and Virgil (Casey) Wells; great grandchildren, Abigail and Nathaniel Wells, Joseph and Ciara Senior, Whitney Nichols, and Aliyah, Jamie, John and Parker Shire; sisters, Lettia and husband Ray Bledsoe, Dorothy Gilliam and Lois Lawrence. She had some very special friends, Sue Barnette, Alma Bledsoe, and Alice Horton. Barbara is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Monday, September 17, 2018 at Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Evangelist Kenneth Neeley and Jonathon Lovelace officiating. Christian Family and Fairview Singers will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Wells Cemetery, Fairview Community, VA. Beryl Maness, Michael Qualls, Odell Brotherton, Travis Bledsoe, Mark Bledsoe and Virgil (Zoomy) Wells will serve as pall bearers. Tim Childress, Paul Horton, John Shire and Nathaniel Wells will serve as Honorary pall bearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., to go in procession to the graveside service.
