Burley "Boss" Wells, 89, Bishoptown, Rye Cove Community of Duffield, VA went to be with the Lord from his home, Saturday, April 7, 2012.
Mr. Wells was born in Scott County, VA on April 6, 1923, the son of the late Polly Bishop Wells. He was retired from Eastman Kodak. Boss was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.
In addition to his mother, Boss was preceded in death by his brothers, Carson, Willie, and Garland Wells; sisters, Maggie Lawson, Mattie Bishop, and Florence Carter; and grandchildren, Karen Raby and Cindy Walker.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Lillian Wells, who stayed by his side until the Lord called him home; daughter, Dana Jones, Kingsport, TN; sons, Wayne Wells, Duffield, VA and David "Farrell" Wells, Duffield, VA; sister, Bertie Thompson, SC; he also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Monday, April 9, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Rev. Joe Hill and the Rev. Roger Herron officiating. Cecil Kerns will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at the Hill Carter Cemetery, Duffield, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any donations to be used for medical expenses.
