Clyde Everette (C.E.) Webb, Jr. Ft. Blackmore, VA

Clyde Everette (C. E.) Webb, Jr., 67, passed into a far better life on February 28, 2009 at 12:15 a.m. in his home in the Alley Valley area of Ft. Blackmore, VA.

He was loved and liked by all he came in contact with and led a full life. He had a big heart and he was a very simple man.

He was born to the late Clyde Everette Webb, Sr., and Bertie Darnell Webb on March 26, 1941.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an adopted son, Joe Allen Webb and a brother Joe Bill Webb.

Mr. Webb loved his dogs, Hurley, Patches and especially Greta, around him. He played minor baseball for Manville until he was 34 years old. He was great and avid at playing golf, ping pong, horse shoes, shooting pool and playing cards with his buds. He was a fantastic dancer. He loved raising a big garden and then giving it to his friends. Grouse and fox hunting were his favorite things to do with his friends and family. His wife, daughter and son also enjoyed fox hunting with him and raising fox hounds. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. He enjoyed all sports, especially college games and westerns. Served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1963 with 18 months in Korea then came back to Gate City after the service and graduated from Gate City High School in 1964. Joined the Virginia National Guard 1030th in September 1979 and retired in 1998 with 20 years' service. He loved serving with his buddies. After graduation he worked at Gate City Service Station, then onto Holston Defense for 9 ½ years. Delivered milk for Pet Diary, home delivery and farmed tobacco for 15 years. Mr. Webb finished up at Quebecor at the Hawkins County plant, then retired to his home place in Alley Valley and enjoyed his gardening.

Surviving is his wife and best friend of 32 years, Phyllis Webb, of the home; A daughter, Jelenia L. Crenshaw and husband Doug, Visilia, CA; son Jason C. (Spud) Webb and fiancée, Amanda Lucas; one grandson, Tyler Crenshaw, Visilia, CA; granddaughter, Maggie Webb, Dungannon, VA; sister, Betty Webb Branch, Riner, VA; three special nephews, Steve Branch, David Branch and Steve Cochran, who he loved to grouse hunt with; special aunts, Jewel Jones and Callie Sproles.

The family will receive friends at the Copper Creek Ruritan, Wednesday, March 4, 2009 from 1-2:30 p.m. A Military graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. in the Webb Family Cemetery, Alley Valley on the Clyde Webb Farm with American Legion Hammond Post #3, Gate City Post #265 along with the Virginia National Guard Honor guard with Chester Shell officiating.

The family asks that donations may be made to Scott County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1535, Gate City, VA and the American Cancer Society Scott County Relay for Life, P.O. Box 246, 230 Charwood Drive NE, Abingdon, VA 24212.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Gary Michael and staff of Clinch River Health Services. A special thanks to Jean Dooley, Dr. Mark Emery and staff, Dr. Stanley Gall and Matt Holster. The CICU Heart Unit at Wellmont and the Scott County Life Saving Crew. Special thanks to Giles Gillespie who stood by Mr. Webb during his sickness.
