Mary Vermillion Watson – Kingsport, TN
Mary Vermillion Watson, 94, died Thursday, November 30, 2017 at her home after a long life and a brief illness.
She was born on July 8, 1923 to the late Isaac and Leona (Compton) Vermillion.
She was the only child of Isaac and Leona Vermillion. She graduated from Shoemaker High School in 1940. She graduated from Virginia Intermont with an Associate’s Degree. She graduated from Radford University with a Bachelor’s Degree. She received a Master’s Degree VPI and a Master’s in Education from Union College.
She taught at Virginia Intermont College and Flora McDonald College and Sullivan South. She will be missed by her devoted family.
She enjoyed working in her flower garden, doing needlepoint, trips to the beach, playing bridge and was an avid reader.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Charles Neil Watson, Sr. preceded her in death.
She is survived by her sons, Charles Neil Watson, Jr., Kingsport, TN, and John Delaney Watson, Chapel Hill, NC; and granddaughter, Cassandra Watson, Kenova, West VA.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday, December 4, 2017 in Juanita S. Falin Memorial Chapel at Gate City Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA with the Rev. Dr. Anna Brawley officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for 11:00 a.m. graveside services.
The family would like to give a thanks to her long-time caregiver, Karen Smith and to the folks at Smokey Mountain Hospice who helped her thru her final illness.
