Wanda Nell McDavid

Wanda Nell McDavid, 83, of Duffield, VA went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 1, 2024. Nell was surrounded by her husband of 61 years, Bruce, and family as she entered into eternity and peacefully inherited all that is promised to those who call upon Jesus Christ as Lord. 

Nell was preceded in death by her parents Luther Z. Collier and Edith Fannon Collier. She is survived by 5 loving sisters including Gerdaline (C.D.) Murdock, Patty Vaughan, Brenda (Bill) Byers, Debbie (John) Caso, Kathy (Rick) Fields and 1 wonderful brother (David Collier). 

 In addition to her husband Hubert Bruce McDavid, Nell is survived by three children: Myra Bledsoe (Keith) of Richmond, KY, Mark McDavid of Duffield, and Karla Hackworth (John) of Winston-Salem, NC. Nell also leaves behind 8 grandchildren including Laken (Chris) Tomlinson, Marcus and Ryan McDavid, Elizabeth (Jesse) Neal, Abby (Clint) Hackworth, Heather (Caleb) Foutch, Maggie Brooke and Jacob Hackworth. Nell also had 4 great grandchildren that their “nana” adored. 

 Professionally, Nell was employed for many years at Paty Lumber Company in Duffield. She loved camping, gardening, canning, and crossword puzzles. She was also a great cook. Bruce and Nell raised their family and served their Lord for close to 60 years as members of Brick Church of Rye Cove. 

The family will be receiving loved ones on Sunday, August 4, 2024, beginning at 5:00PM at the Gate City Funeral Home in Gate City, VA followed by a funeral service at 7:00PM with Nell’s son-in-law, Rev. John E. Hackworth, Jr. and brother-in-law Rev. Vernon McDavid officiating. 

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00a.m., Monday, August 5, 2024, at the Goode Family Cemetery, Duffield, VA. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:30a.m., for the graveside service. 

The family would like to thank the staff at Nova Health and Rehabilitation Center for the loving care they provided Nell in her final days and special thanks also to caregiver Debbie Burchel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brick Church of Rye Cove.
