Mr. Radford Wallen, 81, Gate City, VA went to be with the Lord at Wexford House, Sunday, January 29, 2012.

Mr. Wallen was born in Scott County, VA on November 23, 1930, the son of the late James David and Ollie Frances Bishop Wallen.

He was a member, deacon, and Sunday school superintendent at Natural Tunnel Freewill Baptist Church for many years. He sang in several area quartets over the years. He truly enjoyed going to church. He was a hard worker and retired from the Kingsport Foundry after 40 years of service.

In addition to his parents, his brothers, Elbert and Hiram Wallen, and sisters, Lina McDavid, Mattie DeBoard, and Lovely Clendenin preceded him in death.

Surviving is his wife of 58 years and 10 months, Myrtle Calhoun Wallen; son, Radford Wallen, Jr.; daughter, Freda Haworth and husband, David; grandson, whom he was so proud of, Christopher Haworth; step granddaughter, Kristy Ralph and husband, Ethan and their sons Jessee and James; brother, Odkar Wallen and wife, Juanita; sisters, Laura Qualls, Bonnie Pepper, and Lucy Stacy; along with many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other time at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Wayne Baker and the Rev. Joe Hill officiating. David and Debbie Easterling and Pleasant News will provide the music.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Lynn Clendenin, Jimmy Calhoun, Ricky Calhoun, Sammy Arnold, Larry Stacy, and Ethan Ralph will serve as pallbearers. Charles Rhoton, Chuck Rhoton, Earl Hale, Fred Gillenwater, E.J. Lane, and Kemp Qualls will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family wishes to say a special thanks to the Everhart family, Kathy and Jane, Patty Jo Gott, Tonia Smith and Heather Dougherty for all of their love and care and friendship; and to his nurses at the Wexford House.
