Earl "Rufus" Wallen

Earl "Rufus" Wallen, 70, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family and friends, Thursday, October 9, 2008 after a courageous fight with cancer.
He was born in Scott County and has lived in the Yuma community for 44 years.
He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and attended church at Catrons Chapel where he will truly be missed.
Rufus was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Earnest and Pearlie Wallen; his son, Ricky Wallen in 1983; maternal grandparents, Haburn and Mary Roberts Hale; paternal grandparents, Conley and Lucy Hill Wallen; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Worley and Emma Shelton.
Rufus is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Francis Wallen of the home; one sister, Jerri Darter and husband, Robert, Kingsport, TN; three brothers, Bill Wallen and wife, Sue of Natural Tunnel Parkway, Jack Wallen and wife, Paulette, Kingsport, TN, Roy Wallen and wife, Faye, West Carters Valley; lots of nieces, nephews and cousins; special daughter of the heart who called him dad, Kala Gardener and husband, Daniel, Gate City, VA.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2008 at Gate City Funeral Home or anytime at his residence, 4890 Yuma Rd., Gate City, VA. Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Larry Tolley and Bro. Carl Dorton. Music will be provided by the Hensley Family.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, October 13, 2008 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Pallbearers will be Dennis Templeton, David Templeton, Jimmy Templeton, Greg Wallen, Jeff Fields, Wayne Davidson, Justin Jackson and Bob Bright. Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Darnell, Roger Darnell, Dale Bellamy, Gerald Culbertson, Bruce Roberts, Freddie Roberts, Tommy Herron, John Estep, Lindsey Cress, Dale Kendrick and all his buddies from Yuma Mall Sandwich Shop.
The family will meet at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
The family would like to thank Radiation Oncology Dr. Mays and his staff for the love they showed Rufus during his sickness.
