Sam M. Vaughn, Jr., 82, Duffield, VA passed away, Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Wilcox Hall, Kingsport, TN
Mr. Vaughn was born in Scott County, VA on October 17, 1930 to the late Samuel and Bessie Reynolds Vaughn.
Mr. Vaughn was born and raised in Scott County and spent close to 50 years working and made his home in Dayton. Ohio. After selling his rental properties in Ohio he came back to Virginia in 1998. Sam began buying and selling tracts of land; which was his love.
He lived a simple life, never boastful but always thankful for what he had accomplished. Sam never knew a stranger and always loved talking with family and friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Elnora Miller Vaughn; a son, Dwight Vaughn; 5 sisters, Maude, Virgie, Ethel, Stella, and Hazel; 2 brothers, Bobby and Milo.
Surviving is his loving wife and caregiver of 47 years, Faye Vaughn; daughter, Joyce Barnes and husband, Don, Dayton, OH and son, Wayne, Sullivan, OH; 6 grandchildren, Melissa Harlow and husband, Aaron, Amanda Felts and husband, Bo, Dwight and wife Ashley, Regina , Amanda and Robbie; 12 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; sisters, Nelle Hawkins and husband, Clyde, Rosalie Fannon, and Jeanette Crenshaw; one brother, Billy Vaughn; and many special nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Evangelist Garry Hood officiating. The Hood family will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, February 7, 2013 at the Adams Cemetery, Duffield, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
