Paul Douglas Vanzant– Duffield, VA
Paul Douglas Vanzant, 70, Duffield, VA went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 with his loving family by his side.
Paul worked at Foot Mineral until he retired and was in the Duffield Fire and Rescue for several years until his health made him to retire. Paul was active in his community and was one of the founding members of Shepherds Chapel Church. Paul was saved at Wolfe’s Chapel where he attended and was loved by all who knew him.
Paul was born in Sullivan County, TN on October 5, 1946 to the late Hugh and Clara Lucille (Williams) Vanzant.
In addition to his parents, grandson, Cody Vanzant and brother-in-law, Bobby Jones preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Peggy (Edwards) Vanzant of the home; special son and special daughter-in-law, Stephen and Kim Vanzant, Duffield, VA; two very special grandchildren, Tiffani and Jacob Vanzant, Duffield, VA; one sister, Mary Jones, Duffield, VA; a special niece, Tina and husband, Jeff Seay; a special great-niece, Lindsey Seay; sisters-in-law, Willie Mae Raby, Duffield, VA, Linda and husband, Ray Dockery, Duffield, VA, and Brenda Dishner, Duffield, VA; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, April 21, 2017 at Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Joe Roberts, Pastor AJ Lane, Evangelist Kenneth Neeley, and Rev. Darrell Hurd officiating. Bowens Chapel Singers will provide music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Josh Powers, Eddie Vanzant, Jeff Seay, Tony Dockery, Shannon Dishner, and Thomas Bowen will serve as pallbearers. Jerry Wolfe, Audley Rhoton, Larry Bledsoe, Eddie Bishop, Delmar Rhoton, Ray Dockery, and Charlie Jones will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
