Johnny Ray Trent, 61, Ft. Blackmore, VA died at his home surrounded by his friends and family on Tuesday, May 20, 2014.
Johnny was born in Kingsport, TN on October 21, 1952 to the late John H. and Margaret Massie Trent. He graduated from Milligan College in 1976 and immediately started his teaching career in 1977 until his retirement 34 years later. He was a teacher and coach in Scott County, VA.
Johnny was largely involved in the establishment of the Little League of Scott County. He was a member of the Virginia State Tournament Umpire Association, a State Officer in the Little League Association, and he also officiated many high school sports events. Johnny was also a leader in the community. He was a volunteer for the Scott County and Nickelsville Rescue Squads, and a member of the Virginia Education Association (VEA).
Johnny enjoyed his time traveling and spending time with his family and his friends.
He is survived by his children, Jennifer Trent Begley and boyfriend, Justin Stanley, Ft. Blackmore, VA and Nicole Trent and “adopted” daughter, Amber Adams, Wise, VA; granddaughter, Alisha Begley; grandson, Levi Begley; brother, Ronnie Trent and wife, Carol, Ft. Blackmore, VA; sisters, Patsy Hartsock and husband, Leslie, Kingsport, TN and Margie Trent of Lexington, NC; nieces, Becky Hosein and husband, Wahid, Church Hill, TN and Robin Cole and husband, James, Gate City, VA; and nephew, Ryne Trent, Ft. Blackmore, VA.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Friday, May 23, 2014 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 24, 2014 in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Bob Richards, Rev. Larry Beavers, and Rev. L.W. Salling officiating. The New Grace Trio will provide the music.
Burial will follow the service at the Childress Cemetery, Dungannon, VA. Junior Begley, Jesse Carpenter, Larry Gillenwater, Travis Dorton, Bobby Castle, Ryne Trent, Larry Epperson, and Eddie Sluss will serve as pallbearers. Bob Huff, Ted Young, Ricky Beavers, Clyde Beavers, Randy Beavers, J.M. Dorton, John Fred Trent and Ronnie Dorton will serve as honorary pallbearers.
