Sara "Lizzie" Tipton

Sara Elizabeth "Lizzie" Tipton, 97, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, September 27, 2009 at the Brian Center of natural causes.
A lifelong native of Scott County. She was born on April 10, 1912 to the late Newt Hammonds and Nancy Estepp Hammonds. She attended church at Tipton's Chapel and Clinchport.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie M. Tipton; a daughter, Annette Haynes; son-in-law, Harlan Davidson; one sister, Lula Jennings; two brothers, Bradley and Johnny Hammonds.
She is survived by her daughters, Marlene Davidson and Phyllis Combs and husband, Jim; sons, Bobby G. Tipton and wife, Vickie, John Gary Tipton and wife, Wilma; ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren; sisters, Nannie Jones, Etta Spivey and Shirley Tipton; brothers, Bill, Odell, Robert C., Ben, Ray, Jimmy and Gene Hammonds.
The family will receive friends and condolences from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Gate City Funeral Home and at the home of Jim and Phyllis Combs at their residence in Manville off Bellamy-Tipton Road. Services will be at 7 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Aaron Edens and Rev. Garland Tipton officiating. Music will be provided by the Edens Family Singers.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 1, 2009 at the Tipton Family Cemetery, Gate City, VA. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
