Cleve Tipton – Gate City, VA
Columbus Cleveland “Cleve” Tipton, 96, Gate City, VA passed away, Thursday, May 19, 2016 at his residence.
Born in Scott County, VA on March 5, 1920, he was the son of the late Thomas and Goldie Mae (Hommell) Tipton.
Cleve was a life-long and oldest member of Blair’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Maggie Frazier Tipton, son; James Tipton; sisters, Doshie Tipton, Lavona “Don” Taylor, and Sophie Taylor; along with several sisters-in-law and several brothers-in-law preceded him in death.
He is survived by his children, Darlene McLain and ex-husband, Charles, Greenville, TN, Della Bays and ex-husband, Donnie, Gate City, VA, Julie Griffith and husband, Ken, Chattanooga, TN, Phillip Tipton and wife, Jackie, Weber City, VA, Tommy Tipton, Weber City, VA, and Ricky Tipton and Linda Falin, Hiltons, VA; nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; along with several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m., Sunday, May 22, 2016 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Bill Porter, Charles “Toby” Reed and Rev. Beth Tipton officiating. Eugene Mooneyhan will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 23, 2016 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. His grandsons, grandsons-in-law, and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers. His nephews, neighbors, and church family and friends will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blair’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 849 Slabtown Circle, Gate City, VA 24251.
