Claude Cecil Tipton, 92, Gate City, VA passed away, Friday, March 15, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. Tipton was born in Scott County, VA on August 11, 1920 to the late James Henry and Laura Jane Hammonds Tipton. He was retired from Holston Defense after many years of service and was a member of Kaylor's Chapel Church.
In addition to his parents, his sisters, Myrtle Edwards and Sallie Head; and brothers, Ray, Ezra, Kelly, Johnny, Harvey, and Lilburn Tipton preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Miller Tipton, Gate City, VA; daughters, Kathy Burke and husband, Bobby, Gate City, VA and Vanessa Polly, Newport News, VA; son, Gregory "Buck" Tipton and wife, Brenda, Church Hill, TN; grandchildren, Kristi Burke, Brian Barnette, Brian Burke, and Brent Polly; great grandchildren, Jakob Roper, Cecilia Roper, Keeley Burke, and one expected great grandchild; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Bill Tignor and Rev. Ray Dockery. Kaylor's Chapel Quartet will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 18, 2013 at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA. Brian Barnette, Brian Burke, Brent Polly, Jerry Head, Bill Pat Tipton, Doris Wayne Tipton, and Jakob Roper will serve as pallbearers. George McDavid, "Monk" Rhoton, Zane Starnes, and Steve Polly will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will meet at Gate City Funeral Home at 12:15 p.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
The family wishes to thank Dixie Qualls and the staff of Total Home Care and Hospice, Big Stone Gap, VA for all their love and support of Mr. Tipton.
