Diana Blevins Throckmorton
Lynchburg, Virginia | May 10, 2011
Diana Blevins Throckmorton, 62, entered into rest, far too early, on May 10, 2011, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 19, 1948 in Coeburn Virginia, daughter of the late Loyd and Ella Blevins of Scott County, Virginia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Dairl and Tommy; and sister Lula Mae Wolfe.
Diana is survived by her husband Ernest Throckmorton of Lynchburg VA; daughters Melissa Susan Hallman of Virginia Beach VA, and Sarah Ellen Throckmorton of Lynchburg VA; Son-in law Dr. K. LeGree Hallman of Virginia Beach VA and step-granddaughter Hannah. She is survived also by brothers Monroe of Dungannon VA and Don; and sisters Pauline Montgomery of Kingsport TN, Jessie Orr of Wise VA, and Patricia Williams of Gray, TN. Others include two dear maternal aunts Jeanette Henry and Emily Franklin; and many nephews and nieces, as well as, several great nephews and nieces.
She was loved, respected, and admired by her family, friends and co-workers.
She was a graduate of Dungannon High School, Class of 1966, and graduated Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. While in high school she was honored to serve as the Virginia State President of the Future Homemakers of America. An educator, she worked as a teacher and elementary school librarian in school systems of the Richmond Virginia area, as well as, Chesapeake and Lynchburg VA.
She loved antiques and spent much of the free time of her life acquiring, restoring and enjoying the treasures of the past. Her passion extended from small tea cups to the restoration of a home built in 1817. She also enjoyed the interior design and decoration of homes. It brought joy to her to be asked to assist others in obtaining the beauty they desired for their homes. Gardening was a pleasure of hers. She enjoyed many hours of working with flowering plants wherever she lived.
But all of these personal pleasures paled when compared to the importance of her family. She always provided love, care, guidance, and support to the members of her family — every day, in good times and bad. These gifts she provided throughout her life will surely sustain her family throughout the remainder of their lives. She will be greatly missed.
The immediate family will receive family and friends from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Gate City Funeral Home on Thursday, May 12, 2011.
