Mary Edna Summey Thompson – Kingsport, TN
Mrs. Mary Edna Summey Thompson, 66, Kingsport, TN passed away, Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at her residence after a brief illness.
Mrs. Thompson was born in Ft. Blackmore, VA on April 6, 1945, the daughter of the late Brickey and Lottie Grubb Summey, but lived most of her life in Kingsport.
She was employed at Walgreens on Stone Drive where she was loved by anyone who knew her. She was a loving wife, mother, and a proud, happy grandmother.
In addition to her parents, her sister, Gladys Dockery and brothers, Troy, Charlie, George, Ted, and Ralph Summey preceded her in death.
Surviving is her husband, Harold Thompson, Kingsport, TN; son, Mack A. Welch, Jr. and wife, Sonya, Kingsport, TN; grandson, Donald John (D.J.) Cox, Kingsport, TN; step grandson, Jeremy A. Cox, Kingsport, TN; brothers, Jerry Summey and wife, Judy, Kingsport, TN, Brickey Summey, Jr. and wife, Anita, Gate City, VA, and Claude Summey, Kingsport, TN, sisters-in-law, Carol Marie Summey, Lewisberry, PA and Pat Summey, Church Hill, TN; a special nephew, Larry Wayne Dockery, VA; along with several other nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, March 23, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Evangelist Kenneth Neeley officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m, Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the Begley Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at Gate City Funeral Home at 10:15 a.m., Saturday to go in procession to the graveside service.
