Amaleta E. Thomas, 83, entered into rest May 4, 2009 at her residence. She was born in Scott County, VA May 21, 1925 to the late Bobbie and Bertha Herron Thomas. Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her half sister, Ona Mae Williams; half brother, Earl Thomas and an infant brother; one half nephew and two half nieces. Ms. Thomas retired after 41 years of service with the Scott County School System. Survivors include two step nephews, one step niece and a special friend and caregiver, Mary Christian. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be at 8 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Phil Hoskins and Pastor Shannon Salyer officiating. Music will be provided by Ruth Bray and Wayne Bledsoe. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2009 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. The family will meet at 10:15 p.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Gate City Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Thomas family.
