Billy Borden Thacker, 67, Ft. Blackmore, VA passed away, Sunday, November 4, 2012 at his residence.
Billy was born in Scott County, VA on February 5, 1945 to the late Elmer Borden "Dee" and Eva Mae Spangler Thacker.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and was retired from Westmorland Coal. He attended Wood Riverview Baptist Church, Ft. Blackmore, VA.
In addition to his parents, his brothers, Freddie Lee Thacker and Danny Wayne Thacker and half brother, Gene Lane preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Ann Thacker, Ft. Blackmore, VA; daughter, Jennifer Nickels and husband, Travis, Church Hill, TN; son, Richard Thacker and wife, Allison, Wise, VA; grandchildren, Maggie Mae Nickels, Elijah Nickels, Gideon Nickels, and Matelynn Thacker; half brother, Porter Lane and wife, Barbara, Wise, VA; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7p.m., Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Cecil Kern and Rev. Joe Greear officiating. P.J. and Amanda Johnson will provide the music.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 8, 2012 at the Thacker Family Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, VA by the American Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
