Gate City, VA ? Sophie Tipton Taylor, 89, entered into rest Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at her residence with her family by her side.
She was born in Scott County, VA July 23, 1918 to the late Thomas and Goldie Tipton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Guy W. Taylor; son, Guy W. Taylor, Jr.; sisters, Elizabeth Lavona Taylor and Doshie Tipton.
She was a member of Moores Memorial Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all.
She enjoyed gardening, quilting, canning, making apple butter, and sharing the fruits of her labor with family and friends. Her most favorite pastime was word find crossword puzzles.
Survivors include her daughters, Beulah Taylor and Linda Taylor, of the home, Charlotte and husband, Jim Smith, Gate City, VA, Mary and husband, Barry Lane, Kingsport, TN; sons, W.C. Taylor and wife, Pat, Gate City, VA, Kayro Taylor and wife, Terrie, Gate City, VA; brother, Cleveland Columbus Tipton, Gate City, VA; daughter-in-law, Janie and husband, Larry Sentelle, Kingsport, TN; 14 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild; several step grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, many great nieces and many great nephews; special cousins and host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday, October 19, 2007 at Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Services will be at 8 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Evangelist Wrightly Salling and Evangelist Jim Smith officiating. Music will be provided by Pastor P.J. Johnson and wife, Amanda.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2007 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. The family will meet at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, grandsons-in-law and great grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Frazier, Ronnie Taylor, Donnie Ray Taylor, Phil Tipton, Coy Arnold, John Fuller and Charles Hommell.
