Melvin "Duke" Summey – Dungannon, VA
Melvin "Duke" Summey, 55, Dungannon, VA went to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday, November 22, 2010 at Holston Valley Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Duke loved being outdoors with his family and friends, hunting, riding four wheelers, and taking drives across the mountain. At the time of his death he was a truck driver for Wayne Sanders Logging.
Mr. Summey was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Lona Flanary Summey and a sister, Ruby Irene Sweeney.
Surviving is his loving wife, Barbara Dockery Summey, Dungannon, VA; two special daughters, Miranda Summey Hunt and husband, Richard, Tipton, IA, Kristi Summey Farmer and husband, Brian, Dungannon, VA; four wonderful grandchildren, Truman Begley, R.J. Hunt, Abigail Farmer, and Will Farmer that were the loves of his life; a very special brother and sister-in-law, Raymond Lee Summey and wife, Helen, Ft. Blackmore, VA; six sisters, Susie Owens and husband, Ralph, Nickelsville, VA, Nancy Carter and husband, Bruce, Rye Cove, VA, Debbie Spencer and husband, James, Dungannon, VA, Betty Joe Mann and husband, Larry, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Alice Mann and husband, James, Ft. Blackmore, VA, and Jenny Castle, Rogersville, TN; special nephew and caregiver, Johnny Sweeny, Dungannon, VA; special friend, Mark Osborne, Dungannon, VA; several nieces and nephews and many other friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-7pm. Friday, November 26, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Dungannon, and other times at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00pm with the Rev. Larry Beavers officiating.
Graveside service will be conducted at 11:00a.m., Saturday, November 27, 2010 at the Begley Family Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Mark Osborne, Trey Osborne, Johnny Sweeney, Jason Begley, Jamie Williams, Joe Osborne, Tony Carter, Wayne Sanders, Junior Peak, Jamie Mann, and Tim Carter will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family wishes to convey a special thanks to Dr. May, Dr. Nakouel, and Kingsport Hematology nurses and staff for their loving care of Duke.
Family and friends are asked to meet at 10:00 a.m., Saturday at the First Baptist Church, Dungannon, VA to go in procession to the graveside.
