Danny Ray Summey, 58, Ft. Blackmore, VA passed away, Monday, December 31, 2012 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Danny was born in Sullivan County, TN on June 7, 1954 to the late Hobert Junior and Barbara Salling Summey. He was of the Baptist faith.
Before becoming disabled, Danny was a truck driver for B.F. Robinette Contractors and Bakers Construction and Excavating. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend to all that knew him. He never met a stranger.
In addition to his parents, his paternal grandparents, Richmond and Lizzie Summey; maternal grandparents, Clyde and Mary Belle Salling; niece, Alisha Adams; brother-in-law, Clint Cherry; and father and mother-in-law, Bill and Wanda Dockery preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Patty Dockery Summey, Ft. Blackmore, VA; daughter, Jami Kinkead and husband, Brian, Gate City, VA; son, Daniel Summey, Ft. Blackmore, VA; grandchildren, Dalton and Morghan Kinkead, Gate City, VA; sister, D'Lynn Lawson and husband, Jerry, Ft. Blackmore, VA; brother, Mickey Summey and wife, Nikki, Gate City, VA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry "Dickie" Dockery and wife, Debbie Jo, Nickelsville, VA and Scott Clendenin and wife, Cathy, Piney Flats, TN; nephews, Jerald Lawson, Matt Dockery, and Mark Dockery; niece, Caitlin Cherry; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends at dialysis.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. L.W. "Red" Salling and Rev. George Lane officiating. Lawrence Winstead and friends will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 4, 2013 at the Salling/Grizzle Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, VA. Matt Dockery, Mark Dockery, Jerald Lawson, Johnny Mann, Victor Finch, Buford Salling, Bill Salling, and James "Babe" Lawson will serve as pallbearers. Phil Osborne, Luke Osborne, Herbert Horne and many other special friends at the Osborne Hardware Store in Dungannon, VA, and David Mann and the many friends at Mann's Farms, Ft. Blackmore, VA will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, it is suggested donations to be made to help with final expenses.
A special thank you from the family is conveyed to the nurses and staff at the Kingsport Dialysis Center for their love and care over the past 13 years.
