Barbara Salling Summey, 76, Ft. Blackmore, VA passed away, Saturday, December 10, 2011 Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mrs. Summey was born in Scott County, VA on January 2, 1935, the daughter of the late Clyde and Mary Belle Salling.
She was a lifelong member of Wood Riverview Baptist Church and also a member of the Family Gospel Singers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hobert Junior Summey; father -in-law and mother -in-law, Richmond and Lizzie Summey; and brothers-in-law, Paul Cruby, Jerry Wolfe, Hubert Brock, Boyd Summey, and Garnie Summey.
She is survived by her sons, Danny Summey and wife, Patti, Ft. Blackmore, VA and Mickey Summey and wife, Nikki, Gate City, VA; daughter, D'Lynn Lawson and husband, Jerry, Ft. Blackmore, VA; granddaughter, Jami Kinkead and husband, Brian, Gate City, VA; grandsons, Jerald Lawson and Daniel Summey, both of Ft. Blackmore, VA; great grandchildren, Dalton and Morghan Kinkead, Gate City, VA; brothers, Bill Salling and wife, Bonnie and Buford Salling and wife Brenda; sisters, Bobbie Cruby, Blanche Wolfe, Bethel Brock, Brenda Mann, Beverly Barnette, Betty Bledsoe and husband, Robert, Bernice Arrington and husband, Howard, Carol Hill and husband, Wayne, and Bea Lane and husband, Kenneth; sisters-in-law, Peggy Summey and Juanita Summey; along with several nieces and nephews; and special friends, George and Tammy Lane.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of D'Lynn and Jerry Lawson. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. L.W. "Red" Salling, the Rev. James Salling, and the Rev. George Lane officiating. Lawrence Winstead and Cora Horne will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 16, 2011 at the Salling and Grizzle Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at 12:45 p.m., Friday, December 16th at the cemetery for the graveside service.
The family wishes to give special thanks Drs. Lovelace, Grover, Emory, Miller, and Butler and Kingsport Family Practice and to the nursing staff in the SICU at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center for their love and care of Mrs. Summey.
