Elmer Gene Sturgill – Blackwater, VA. Elmer Sturgill – 66- entered into rest Sunday, March 21, 2010 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Sturgill was of the Baptist faith. He was born in Scott County, VA on June 16, 1943 to the late Charles Everett Sturgill and Rosie Mae Jessee Sturgill.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by three sisters, Pearl Hickman, Hazel Crisp, and Mary Gilliam and four brothers, Isaac, Arthur, Harold and Carson Sturgill. Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Carol Sturgill, Blackwater, VA., a daughter, Lisa Graham, Kingsport, TN. Grandchildren, Kendyll Graham and Peyton Graham. Two sisters, Dorothy McBryar of Detroit, MI and Betty Dixon and husband, Clyde of Harlan, KY. Along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 23, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. at the Gate City Funeral Home and anytime at the residence. Services will be conducted Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial chapel of the funeral home with Evangelist Garry Hood officiating. Music will be provided by Evangelist Garry Hood.
Interment will be in Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. following the service.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
