Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Starnes, 81, Gate City, VA went Home to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 24, 2012.
Elizabeth was born in Scott County, VA on May 8, 1930, the daughter of the late W. A. and Theresa Moore. She retired from Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. She enjoyed attending church at Midway Baptist Church. Elizabeth loved being outdoors, doing yard work and gardening.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Starnes; brothers, Ed Moore, Joe Moore, and Howard Moore and sisters, Cloteen Quillen and Mabel McConnell.
She is survived by her sons; Robert Starnes, Gate City, VA, Randall Starnes and wife, Barbara, Nickelsville, VA, and Terry Starnes and wife, Melinda, Gate City, VA; grandchildren, Danielle Starnes, Duffield, VA, Kristen Sparkman and husband, Josh, Jonesborough, TN, Ethan Starnes, Gate City, VA; brother, Glen Moore and wife, Wanda, Kingsport, TN; sister, Doris Palmer and husband, I.D., Bristol, VA; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., April 27, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home or anytime at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Coy Butler officiating. Music will be provided by family.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the Midway Community Cemetery of Scott County, VA. Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
The family would like to convey a special thanks to caretaker and daughter-in-law, Melinda Starnes and Wellmont Hospice nurses, Sandy, Robin, Josie, Linda, Frieda, and Patricia.
