Mr. Otis K. Starnes, 86, Duffield, VA passed away, Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Ridgecrest Manor Nursing Home.
Mr. Starnes was born in Scott County, VA on January 20, 1922, a son of the late Johnny Andrew and Ora Hill Starnes. He was a veteran of the United States Army, was retired from Foote Mineral, Sunbright, VA and was the owner of Starnes Trucking.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Chad Starnes, a daughter-in-law, Sue Starnes, sister, Vesta Templeton and an aunt and uncle, Ava and Ike Hill.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Flanary Starnes, Duffield, VA, daughter, Judy Hammonds and husband, Don, Gate City, VA, sons, Jack Starnes and wife, Sandra, Wise, VA and Teddy Starnes and wife, Sue, Duffield, VA, grandchildren, Steven Starnes, Duffield, VA, Gena Scurlock, Arizona, Jeffery Starnes and wife, Lindsey, Grundy, VA, great grandchildren, Devon, Logan and Jacob, all of Arizona and Ryleigh and Madison, Grundy, VA, sister, Lorene Shupe, Kingsport, TN and brother, Frank Starnes, Duffield, VA, along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2008 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Lonnie Townsend and the Rev. Joe Hill officiating. The Durham's Chapel Quartet will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the Hall Cemetery in the Stanleytown Community. Benny Starnes, Bob Shepard, Ralph Kern, Dale Townsend, Johnny Roach and Matt Townsend will serve as pallbearers. Joe Kern, Gerald Bowen, Clayton Kern, Paul Lawson and Lonnie Townsend will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will be meeting at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m., Saturday to go in procession to the graveside service.
