Myrtle Flanary Starnes, 88, Duffield, VA entered into her heavenly Home, Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Ridgecrest Manor.
Mrs. Starnes was born in Scott County, VA on December 24, 1924 to the late Jeff and Martha Ruth Flanary.
She was a devoted Christian, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Myrtle will always be remembered for her loving and caring ways. She loved everyone she met and was loved in return. She never complained in all the years she was in the nursing home. She was a strong woman, and she will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Otis; her beloved daughter, Judy Hammonds; grandson, Chad Starnes; daughter-in-law, Sue Starnes; and sisters, Venus Sanders and Elma Ward preceded her in death.
She is survived by her sons, Jack Starnes and wife, Sandra, Wise, VA and Teddy Starnes and wife, Sue, Duffield, VA; grandchildren, Gena Scurlock, AZ, Steven Starnes and Donna Gibson, Duffield, VA, and Jeff Starnes and wife, Lindsey, Grundy, VA; great grandchildren, Logan, Devon, and Jacob, AZ, and Madison, Ryleigh, and Evan, Grundy, VA; son-in-law, Don Hammonds, Gate City, VA; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Helen Starnes; brother-in-law, Fred Shupe; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Joe Hill officiating. Durham's Chapel Quartet will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the Hall Cemetery, in the Stanley Town community of Scott County, VA. Benny Starnes, Ricky Shupe, Danny Shupe, Leland Sanders, and Pete Sanders will serve as pallbearers. Danny Ward, Clayton Kern, Gerald Bowen, and Dale Townsend will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m., Sunday to go in procession to the graveside service.
The family would like to extend our utmost appreciation to all the ones at Ridgecrest who cared so lovingly to Mother during her many years at the nursing home. Thank you all so much. God Bless you.
