Maxie Virginia Starnes, 81, Duffield, VA passed away, Monday, December 23, 2013 at Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital, Big Stone Gap, VA.
Mrs. Starnes was born in Scott County, VA on February 17, 1932; daughter of the late Nettie Owens.
She attended the Log House Church in Weber City, VA.
In addition to her mother, her first husband and father of her children, George C. Kerns; 2ndhusband, Carl Starnes; brother, Bill Owens and half brother, Junior Casteel preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy McNew, Rye Cove, VA, Mary Sue Dollen and husband, Lorrin, Kingsport, TN, Carol Sluss, Dungannon, VA, and Wanda Williams and husband, H.C. "Tunor", Gate City, VA; sons, Paul Kern and wife, Angela, Danville, IN, Jim Kerns and wife, Helen, Hilton, VA, and Junior Kerns and wife, Loredda, Duffield, VA; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sisters, Gaynell Bledsoe, Kingsport, TN; half sister, Nancy Kilgore and husband, Jerry, Gate City, VA; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, December 26, 2013 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev, Danny Kerns officiating. The Depending on Jesus Singer will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 27, 2013 at the McNew Cemetery on Raven Hollow Road in the Rye Cove community of Scott County, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
