Mary Veda Starnes, 91, Ft. Blackmore, VA went Home to with the Lord, Friday, November 23, 2012 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mrs. Starnes was born in Scott County, VA on July 12, 1921 to the late Houston and Laura Estell Darnell Dingus.
She was a long time attendee of Fellowship Chapel Church of Ft. Blackmore, VA.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Henry Starnes, sisters, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Necessary and Polly Harvey and brother, Wrightly Dingus preceded her in death.
Surviving is her son, Jimmy Starnes and wife, Kathy, Ft. Blackmore, VA; granddaughters, Amanda Jennings and husband, Todd, Mount Carmel, TN and Kimberly Hutchinson and husband, Jason, Bristol, TN; great granddaughter, Maddison Jennings, Mount Carmel, TN; and nieces, Helen Crawford and husband, Mike, Castlewood, VA and Peggy Rhoton, Ft. Blackmore, VA.
The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 p.m., Sunday, November 25, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her son, Jimmy Starnes. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Todd Jennings, Brother Wayne Stallard and honorary clergy, Mack Sanders officiating. Todd Jennings and The Upward Way Quartet will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 26, 2012 at the Houston Dingus Cemetery, Slant, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m., Monday to go in procession to the graveside service.
The family wishes to convey their very special thanks to the Wellmont CCU and ICU Care Units and staff, and to the 2nd and 3rd floor nurses of Wilcox Hall for their excellent care of Mrs. Starnes.
