She was born in Sullivan County, TN July 1, 1925 to the late James Carson Reed and Molly Dale Sampson.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Starnes; one sister, Evelyn McDavid and a brother, Charles Reed.
Survivors include her daughter, Janet Hensley, Gate City, VA; sister, Phyllis Culbertson and husband, Gerald, Nickelsville, VA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Gladys Reed, Gate City, VA, Jimmy and Mary Reed, Yuma, VA, Carl and Regina Reed, Weber City, VA, Ralph Reed, Gate City, VA, Larry and Reeta Reed, Knoxville, TN, Billy and Sandra Reed, California; grandson, Josh Hensley, Gate City, VA; great granddaughter, Erika Hensley; step great grandchildren, Kody Shelton and Quintin Shelton; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2009 at Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 6:45 p.m by the Gate City Rebekah Lodge #86. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Riley Boy officiating.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at Oak Hill Memorial Gardens, Kingsport, TN. The family will meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Contributions may be made to the Gate City Rebekah Lodge #86, 107 E. Jackson St. Gate City, VA 24251.
