Gate City, VA ? Ellen Frances Stapleton, 74, entered into rest Friday, October 10, 2008 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was born in Hawkins County, TN May 12, 1934 to the late Merlin Thacker and Myrtle McDavid Thacker.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edmond Stapleton; granddaughter, Heather Owens; sisters, Pearlie Linkous, Grace Lindsey, Eltie Adams and Mandy Winegar and one brother, Mitchell Thacker.
She is survived by a very special friend, Gary K. Davidson, Gate City, VA; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lou and Jan Wolfe, Kingsport, TN, Julia and Buddy Babb, Kingsport, TN and Evelyn Lawson, Kingsport, TN; sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky and Teresa Stapleton, Elizabethton, TN, Adam Scott Stapleton, Church Hill, TN, C.W. and Tammie Stapleton, Gate City, VA; sister, Isabeth "Blue Eyes" Christian, Surgoinsville, TN; brother, Willie Thacker, Surgoinsville, TN; grandchildren, Randall Salyer, Amanda and Nicole Stapleton, Jason Gardner, Sonya Hawkins, Stacie Lawson, Edmond Lawson, Tammy Perry, Wesley and Francis Stapleton; great grandchildren, Lexus and Chase Snow, Landon Gardner, Whitney and Olivia Hawkins, Morgan Easter, Macy and Gage Perry; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, October 13, 2008 at Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be 8 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Arrie Hickman and Rev. Dicky Watts officiating. Music will be provided the Lee Smith Singers.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at Stapleton Cemetery, Hiltons, VA. The family will meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
Pallbearers will be her nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be Randal Salyer and Eugene McMurray.
Gate City Funeral Home is serving the Stapleton family.
