Crawford C. Stanley – Duffield, VA Crawford Clinton Stanley, 84, Stanleytown community of Duffield, VA passed away, Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Indian Path Medical Center.
Crawford was born in Scott County, VA on March 13, 1925, a son of the late Jess and Maxie Ramey Stanley. He was retired from Westmoreland Coal Company. Crawford was saved on Thursday, July 22, 2004 between 9:14 and 9:30 p.m. at Hills Chapel Church and was of the Freewill Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Brandy Stanley and his sister, Grace Lane.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty plus years, Ruby Fletcher Stanley, Duffield, VA, daughters, Patty Prevatte and husband, Larry, Duffield, VA, Martha Doerr and husband, Dick, Dumfries, VA and Marcalene Traverso and husband, Gary, Duffield, VA, son, Farrell Stanley and wife, Barbara, Duffield, VA, grandchildren, Scott Kitts, Steven Kitts and Megan Stanley, great grandchildren, Nino, Jasmine and Steven, sisters, Helen Starnes and husband, Frank, Duffield, VA and Linda Hilton and husband, Robert, Duffield, VA, brother, Charles "Pepper" Stanley, Duffield, VA along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Friday, May 8, 2009 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Cecil Kern and the Rev. Joe Hill officiating. Durham's Chapel Quartet and the Three C's in Christ will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, May 9, 2009 at the Hall Cemetery in Stanleytown.
Dick Doerr, Larry Prevatte, Gary Traverso, Nino Gonzalez, Scott Kitts and Steven Kitts will serve as pallbearers. Jarl Bowen, Johnny Kerns, Junior Jennings, John Henry Shupe, Leonard Stallard, Pepper Stanley and Don Kelly will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at 11:30 a.m. at the Stanleytown Community Church and proceed to the graveside service.
