Mrs. Fannie Lynn Spriggs, 57, Gate City, VA passed away, Saturday, August 20, 2011 at her residence.
Mrs. Spriggs was born in Scott County, VA on August 15, 1954, the daughter of the late Oscar Johnson and Jennie Bell Turner Kane.
Fannie Lynn Spriggs was a long time member of Hale's Chapel United Methodist Church. She loved the Lord.
Lynn began working at the age of 18 where she was employed by J.P. Stevens for 23 years. She later began working at the United States Post Office for 16 years, retiring at the age of 57.
Lynn had several special friends and a sister. Lynn loved spending time with her husband, children, grand children, sister, nieces, nephews, and her friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, James Kane, John Shoemaker, Walter Frank Johnson, Oscar Lee Johnson, and Jimmy Lee Johnson; along with several aunts and uncles.
Surviving is her husband, Herman R. Spriggs, Gate City, VA as well as her daughters, Kim Owens, Sanford, NC and Stephanie Torres, Terre Haute, IN; son, Antonio "Tony" Johnson, Kingsport, TN; 23 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; 1 great granddaughter; step daughters, Sherrita Spriggs, Kingsport, TN and Tanisha Spriggs, MD; step sons, Robert Dion Spriggs and wife, Rhetta, Kingsport, TN, Jerome Spriggs and wife, Joy, Spartanburg, SC, and Herman Spriggs, Jr. and wife, Tanya, Harker Heights, TX; sister, Mary Gamble and husband, William, Kingsport, TN; several nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins.
The family will receive friends from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m., Friday, August 26, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin promptly at 5:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. James Whiteside and the Rev. Rochell Maxwell officiating.
Burial will follow the service at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Her classmates will serve as honorary pallbearers.
