Ray Swanson Snavely, 76, Ft. Blackmore, VA passed away, Friday, May 10, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center ER.
Mr. Snavely was born in Scott County, VA on February 6, 1937 to the late William and Ellen Dockery Snavely, Sr.
Ray was of the Baptist faith and a member of Bishop Memorial Baptist Church. He attended Pendleton's Freewill Baptist Church. He was a member of both Clinchport Masonic Lodge #267 and Fincastle Masonic Lodge #33.
He was a welder with Joy Mining Co.
In addition to his parents, his sister, Gladys Snavely and brother, William Snavely, Jr. preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Beulah Gaye Snavely, Ft. Blackmore, VA; daughter, Jeannie McDavid and husband, Mike, Ft. Blackmore, VA; sons, Jimmy Snavely, Ft. Blackmore, VA and Danny Snavely and wife, Kathy, Rye Cove, VA; grandchildren, Joey Ramsey and wife, Holly, Scotty Ramsey, Kevin Smith and wife, Kelly, and Cindy Minton and husband, Bill; great grandchildren, Lauren Smith, Makenna Smith, Molly Minton, Jasper Ramsey, and Zoe Ramsey; sisters, Beulah Kern and husband, Henry, Duffield, VA, Anna Haskins and husband, Don, Los Cruses, NM, and Peggy Dockery and husband, Don, Ft. Blackmore, VA; brothers, Garnie Snavely, Kingsport, TN, Paul Snavely and wife, Tina, Rye Cove, VA, and J.W. Snavely and wife, Carolyn, Ft. Blackmore, VA; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Monday, May 13, 2013 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Masonic services will be conducted at 5:00 p.m., Monday, May 13, 2013 in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home by Fincastle Lodge #33.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Pendleton's Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Hill and Rev. Kevin Sanders officiating. The Pendleton Church Singers will provide the music.
Burial will follow the service as the Cowden Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Members of Clinchport Masonic Lodge #267 and Fincastle Masonic Lodge #33 will serve as honorary pallbearers.
