Nat Smythe– Gate City, VA
Nat Allen Smythe, 89, Gate City, VA went peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 31, 2016.
Nat was born and raised in Scott County, VA on September 2, 1926. He was the son of the late Conley B. and Lona Herron Smythe. He faithfully served his country in the Navy.
He retired from Holston Defense after many years.
As an avid outdoors lover, Nat enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family members.
The love of life, his wife, Ernestine “Jerkie” Anderson Smythe, preceded him in death and was waiting with open arms when he walked through the gates of heaven; along with his infant son, Phillip Smythe; and his beloved brothers, Hagan, Carl and Jack.
He will one day welcome those family members who feel his earthly loss including his daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Danny Roller, Kingsport, TN, Leslie and Heath Hillman, Big Stone Gap, VA; son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Ann Smythe, Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Lisa Dingus, Allison Butcher, Brad Smythe, Michael, Ashlyn, Matthew and Alyssa Dupree; step granddaughters, Taylor and Ashlynn Shae Hillman; a special adopted granddaughter, Tierstan Bright; 7 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren; his beloved dog, Thumper; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, August 5, 2016 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Ray Amos officiating. Bobbie Hillman will provide the music.
Military Graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City. VA. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at 10:00 a.m., Saturday to go in procession to graveside service.
