Mrs. Virginia L. Smith – 84, Kingsport, TN went to be with the Lord January 3, 2010 at Hillside Manor.
Mrs. Smith was born in Scott County, VA on July 5, 1925, a daughter of the late William Grover and Ethel Carter Lane.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Edsel Smith, a great grandson, Christopher Steffey, sister, Dorothy Ruth Tipton and a brother, Earl Patton Lane.
She is survived by her sister, Minnie Belle Benton and husband, Marvin, Gate City, VA; daughters, Terry Herndon and husband, Bill, Kingsport, TN and Lesia Cross and husband, Randale, Gray, TN; son, Darrel Smith and wife, Luisa, Durham, NC; grandchildren, Cary Steffey and wife, Kim, Angela Lang and husband, Russell, Wesley Smith and wife, Nout, Loraine Smith, Brian Cross and wife, Debra, Eric Cross; great grandchildren, Elizabeth Craddock, Joshua Steffey, Kaelyn Cross, and Haeley Cross; great-great grandchildren, Cadence and Caytlyn Craddock; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her daughter, Terry Herndon.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Lennis France and the Rev. Mack Daugherty officiating. Music will be provided by the Lawson Memorial Choir.
Burial will follow the service at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Holston Manor Nursing Home staff and especially to Loretta and Tequila.
