Junior Smith – Nickelsville, VA
W.H. Smith, Jr., 84, Nickelsville, VA went to be with the Lord at his residence, Monday, April 22, 2013 after a lengthy illness.
Junior was born in Scott County, VA on January 3, 1929 to the late Bill and Blanche Smith. He attended Roadside Mission Church.
He spent his entire life as a farmer, which was his true calling. He was a hard working family man who was truly admired by his community. He was always willing to help anyone, expecting nothing in return.
He accepted people for who they were and taught his children to do the same. By some people's standards he would have been called a simple man, but his wealth was in the things that mattered the most, his family, friends, and his home.
Junior loved the outdoors, especially coon hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, his wife of 63 years, Angeline B. Smith; and brothers, James Smith and Charlie M. Smith preceded him in death.
Surviving are his children, Allen Smith and wife, Mary Ann, Nickelsville, VA and LaVaughn S. Smallwood, Nickelsville, VA; grandchildren, Kesha Gibson and husband, Shane, Rachel Smith and wife, Tori, Austin Smith and wife, Hailey, and Rochelle Smith; great grandchildren, Phoenix, Joplin, and Hendrix Smith, and Aliva and Gracie Gibson; sister, Mildred Williams Rasnick, Nickelsville, VA; along with several nieces, nephews, and many, many friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of this son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Mary Ann Smith. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. G.W. White officiating. Hello Stranger, comprised of Dale and Teresa Jett and Oscar Harris will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Kevin Smallwood, Shane Gibson, Austin Smith, Gabe Parks, Andy Harris, and Greg Parks will serve as pallbearers.
Danny Parks, Zane Parks, Mark Harris, Ricky Parks, Richard Broadwater, and Richard Smith will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., Thursday to go in procession to the graveside service.
The family would like to thank everyone for their prayer and support during Dad's illness.
