Jarrette Eugene “Poss” Smith, 69, Nickelsville, VA, who was the 6th of nine children, went to his Heavenly Home, Sunday, October 16, 2016 after a short illness.
Poss was born in Scott County, VA, on November 20, 1946. He was the son of the late David Crockett and Rosa Myrtle (Salyers) Smith.
In addition to his parents, his daughter, Barbara “Barbie” Smith, 3 sisters, 2 brothers, and 2 nephews preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Deborah Evans “Debbie” Smith, Nickelsville, VA; daughters, Jessica Smith, Nickelsville, VA; son, Eugene; sisters, Flora Hall, Nickelsville, VA, Dorothy Blackburn and husband, Glen, South Williamson, KY, and Mildred Runyon, Huddy, KY; several nieces, nephews, and friends; and his best friend, his dog, Mouse.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 18 from 5:00-7:00 p.m., at Gate City Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel with Rev. Larry Beavers and Brother Wesley Edwards officiating.
The graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Halloway Cemetery, Crackers Neck, Nickelsville, VA. John Lee Powers, John J. Powers, Bo Taylor, Austin Gullett, Jessica Smith, and Glen Blackburn will serve as pallbearers. Billy Joe Dean, Mack Kilgore, Roger Woods, Greg Puckett, Clifford Gillenwater, Clyde Beavers, Jerry “Flip” Vicars, Earl Osborne, and Joe Holbrook will serve as honorary pallbearers. Family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
