Helen Louise Smith, 78, Weber City, VA passed away, Monday, May 2, 2016 at Wellmont Hospice, Bristol, TN.
Helen was born in Scott County, VA March 17, 1938 to the late Rufus Franklin and Nannie Tate Johnson.
She retired from the Scott County School System after thirty plus years of teaching. Her retirement years were spent doing what she loved most, antiquing at the Ivy Cottage in downtown Gate City, VA.
In addition to her parents, her brother, George August Johnson preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ralph Taylor Smith, Weber City, VA; daughters, Katrina Smith Toole, Weber City, VA and Renita Smith Probst and husband, John, Braselton, GA; grandchildren, Sullivan Toole, Weber City, VA, Alexandra Probst and Avery Probst, both of Braselton, GA; sisters, Evelyn Johnson, Ft. Blackmore, VA and Clara Parman, Knoxville, TN; brother, Myron Johnson and wife, Marie, Church Hill, TN; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, May 6, 2016 at the Holston View United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of the church with Rev. Wayne Hedrick officiating. A eulogy will be given by John Kilgore, Lori Jones, and Brenda Byrd. Gail Brown, the Holston View United Methodist Church Choir and Vickie Austin will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the Johnson Family Farm. Dale Byrd, Kurt Lane, Steve McClellan, Scott Arnold, Matt Toole, and John Kilgore will serve as pallbearers. Her Ivy Cottage Family, Clay and Carolyn Coldiron and Charlie and Debra Green will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., Saturday to go in procession to the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the Holston View Preschool.
