Mrs. Frances Evelyn. Smith, 86, went Home to be with our Lord, Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Ridgecrest Manor.
Mrs. Smith was born in Scott County, VA on October 22, 1924, the daughter of the late Lorenzo Dow and Nannie Belle Peters.
Frances was one of the most loving, caring people you would ever meet. She began working at Eastman Chemical Company at the age of 18, and retired from Norris Industries at the age of 62.
She lived for her children and grandchildren. She resided in Scott County for most of her life. She enjoyed working in the garden and cooking Sunday dinner for her family. She never met a stranger and cared for everyone she could. She fed and took care of many.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Mack Daniel "M.D." Smith; brothers, Billy Peters and Arthur Peters; sisters, Nina Brunson and Ruby Snodgrass; and granddaughter, Cheyenne Smith.
Surviving are her daughters, Sherry L. Smith, Kingsport, TN and Barbara Sue Rogers, Gate City, VA; son, Mike Smith and wife, Becky, Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Courtney Reed and fiancé, Matt Falin, Clinchport, VA, Heather Rogers, Gate City, VA, Adriana Smith, Nicholas Smith, and Dakota Smith, all of Kingsport, TN; great grandchildren, Jasmine Rogers, Jacob Falin, and Jacob Webb; sister, Anna Ruth Estepp, Gate City, VA; brother, Emmett Peters, Kingsport, TN; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m., until 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 27, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her daughter, Barbara Sue Rogers. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Evangelist Kenneth Neeley officiating.
Burial will follow the service at Smith Cemetery in the Kingdom area of the Purchase community of Scott County, VA. Mark Estepp, Mack Price, Roger Estepp, Bill Peters, Jack Mullins, and Gerald Snodgrass will serve as pallbearers. Allen Hood, Nick Smith, Cody Smith, Mark Sloan, and Martin Sloan will serve as honorary pallbearers.
