Kelly “Mack” Sluss, 86, Nickelsville, VA passed away, Sunday, April 22, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Mack was born in Scott County, VA on May 4, 1931 and was the son of the late Charles Ballard and Lois Lee (Sweeney) Sluss.
He enjoyed farming, gardening, whittling, fishing, hunting, and especially spending time with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, his infant son, Sammy Glen Sluss; grandson, Clinton Sluss; sisters, Margaret Lou Meade, and Estelle “Tabby” Richmond; brothers, Ben Sluss, Fred Sluss and Hershel Sluss; special nephew “brother”, Jesse Sergent preceded him in death.
Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years and 7 months, Mary Helen Sluss, Nickelsville, VA; daughter, Kathleen (Danny) Rose, Honaker, VA; sons, Kenneth (Sharon) Sluss, Nickelsville, VA and Roger (Brenda) Sluss, Nickelsville, VA; grandchildren, Daniel Sluss, Crystal (Gavin) Meade, Wesley Sluss and friend, Natasha Culbertson, Nathan Sluss; step-grandchild, Whitney Rose and friend, Shade Ray; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 step-great-granddaughter; sisters, Jenny Campbell, Nickelsville, VA and Brenda Jessee and friend, Jerry Strong, Dungannon, VA; brothers, Donnie (Lizzie) Sluss, Dungannon, VA and Charles Sluss, Jr., Nickelsville, VA; special nephew “brother”, Jimmy Sergent, Dungannon, VA; sister-in-law, Freida Sluss, Dungannon, VA; brother-in-law, Jack Meade, Nickelsville, VA; along with several nieces and nephews and host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Steve Collins officiating. Brittany Tomlinson will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Ben Sluss Memorial Cemetery, Twin Springs Road, Dungannon, VA. Jimmy Sergent, David Dean, Jordan Dean, Todd Criswell, Johnny Ray Campbell, Eddie Sluss, Jason Sluss, and Robert “Bob” Etherton will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are all family nephews.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. to go in procession to graveside services.
