Ronald Hampton Sloan, age 81, Gate City, VA, went to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on Saturday morning, August 13, 2016.
Born in Scott County, VA on April 2, 1935, he was the son of late Robert Lee and Bonnie Estelle Sloan. Three daughters, Pamela Sloan, Cynthia Sloan, Terry Sloan; Sister, Patsy Hall; Brother, Bobby Sloan preceded him in death.
Ronald worked as a diamond wheel redresser when he retired from AFG Industries in Kingsport TN. After retirement, he continued to work with his personal business, Ron's Diamond Wheel Service. Ronald always would say "never quit, keep moving". He enjoyed spending time with his family on the farm riding tractors and enjoying the peacefulness of the land. He loved raising his garden every year with his brother Norman. His passion was his love for playing music with his many guitars. He enjoyed playing at church and would frequently visit the Pickin Parlor to play with his guitar buddies. He was an active Master Mason with Catlett Lodge No. 35, Gate City VA. He was certified in small engine repair with the State of TN and loved to work on mowers and tractors. He lived life to the fullest and was such a joy to everyone that he would meet.
He is survived by his wife Geneva Sloan of over 60 years, the love of his life. They were married in Gate City, VA on May 11, 1956. Daughter, Diane Sloan and husband Kelly Musick, Kingsport TN. Diane adored and greatly loved her daddy. She was by his side each and every day through this life journey. Brother, Norman Sloan, Clinchport VA; Sister, Morella Duncan Gate City VA; Sister, Joan Stapleton and Junior, Gate City, VA; Sister, Shirley Jones & husband Regis, Portsmouth VA; several nephews and nieces; special fur babies, Krypto, Buttons, and Tiger.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 17th from 5-7 p.m. at Gate City Funeral Home in Gate City, VA. Masonic Services will be conducted at 6:45 p.m. by Catlett Lodge #35 AM & FM of Gate City, VA. The funeral services, a celebration of his life, will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel with Rev Olen Sloan and Bill Lambert officiating. Music will be provided by the Eden's Family.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 18th at the Sloantown Cemetery in the Sloantown community of Scott County VA. Family and friends are asked to meet at 10:00 a.m., Thursday at the funeral home to go in procession to the graveside service. Rodney Duncan, Roger Duncan, Randy Duncan, Don Martin, Greg Sloan, Teddy Campbell will serve as pallbearers. Bill Bowen, Ronnie Peters, John Peters as honorary pallbearers.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Nausheen Ahmed MD, Marta Wayt MD, and all the other special angels that took great care of dad during this time.
