Larry Wayne Sloan – Duffield, VA
Larry Wayne Sloan (Munk), 57, Duffield, VA went to be with his heavenly Father, to finally be at peace, on the evening of March, 20, 2013.
Mr. Sloan was born in Sullivan County, TN on September 5, 1955 to Hubert and Nell Sloan of Robinette Valley, VA. Larry was a member of the Armed Forces since his completion of high school. He started with a two year term in the U.S. Army becoming a diesel mechanic for the National Guard, where he worked and served until his early retirement. Larry was an avid knife collector and was a great friend to all that knew him. He loved his country and sent many donations to Disable Veterans of America and other similar organizations. Larry loved his dogs, Barney, Andy and Shortie. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ray and Clara Sloan; maternal grandparents, Lewis and Lola Allen; along with his beloved dog, Buddy.
Larry is survived by his only child, Sarah Lynn Sloan Bishop and husband, Amos, Duffield, VA; granddaughter, Katelyn Rose Thomas, Duffield, VA; parents, Hubert and Nell Sloan, Robinette Valley, VA; brother, Donnie Sloan, Duffield, VA; sister, Collen McDavid and husband, George, Clinchport, VA; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m., Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Evangelist Kenneth Neeley officiating.
Military Graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard following the service on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at The Sloan Family Cemetery, Duffield, VA. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
