Cora Marcelene Sloan, 73, Duffield, VA, our precious wife and mother went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 13, 2013. She always went above and beyond for her husband, children, and grandchildren, always putting their needs before her own. Our home and lives will never be the same but we have that hope and promise of meeting her again. We will meet you at home Mom.
Marcelene was born in Scott County, VA on December 5, 1940 to the late Charlie and Nina Barnette Carter. She was a member of Sloantown Community Church.
In addition to her parents, her daughter, Amy Sloan (2007) and brother David Carter preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Norman Sloan, Duffield, VA; daughter, Tammy Crigger and husband, Jeff Crigger, Rogersville, TN; son, Greg Sloan and wife, Sandra, Duffield, VA; grandchildren, Zack Sloan and wife, Brittany, Rogersville, TN. Haley Sloan, Church Hill, TN; and Jared Crigger, Rogersville, TN; sisters, Thelma Rhoton, Gate City, VA, Betty Roberts, Duffield, VA, Nell Bowen, Duffield, VA, Paulette Rains, Gate City, VA, and Brenda Gillenwater and husband, Larry, Kingsport, TN; brothers, James Carter and wife, Lorene , Gate City, VA and Wayne Carter and wife, Alice, Ft. Blackmore, VA; and special friends of Norman, Jim Bowlin and Harry McConnell; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Brother Olen Sloan, Pastor Kevin Vincent, and Evangelist Pat Hammonds officiating. Jeff Crigger will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 16, 2013 at the Carter Cemetery, Duffield, VA. Zack Sloan, Jared Crigger, Eddie Carter, Brad Carter, Bruce McMillan, and Brent Carter will serve as pallbearers. Larry Gillenwater, Wayne Carter, Ronald Sloan, and James Carter will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
