Sandra Sue (Farley) Skeens, 56, Gate City, VA went home to be with the Lord and loved ones, May 5, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born December 16, 1953 to Vivian Joene Dickerson and the late Creed Farley, Sandra was a bus driver for the Scott County School System for over twenty years, while also working for Holston View Cemetery on a part-time basis. She began full-time employment with Holston View Cemetery upon retirement from the Scott County School System, where she worked for the last twenty-two years.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Skeens in June of 2009; daughter, Regina Kay(Pooh) Skeens; brother, Larry Farley; sister, Melinda Rhoton; grandparents, Fred and Elizabeth Dickerson, and her mother and father-in-law, Charlie and Esteel Skeens.
Survivors include her daughter, Paula Karr and Brian Mullins, Hilton, VA; grandson, Austin Karr; granddaughter, Brianna Mullins; mother, Vivian Farley, Gate City, VA; brother, Skip Farley, and wife, Lisa, Hilton, VA; sister, Susan Kerney, and husband, Ray, Gate City, VA; brothers-in-law, Danny Joe Rhoton, White Pine, TN, Joe Skeens, and wife, Margaret, TX, and Lonnie Williams, GA; sister-in-law, Shirley Davis, and husband, Fred, TN; along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday, May 7, 2010 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Will Shewey officiating. Steve Wells and Rick Begley will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 8, 2010 at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Mike Frazier, Mike Painter, Dale McMurray, Robert Parks, Rick Begley, and Jerry Fleenor will serve as pallbearers. Danny Joe Rhoton and Alan Giles will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will be meeting at the funeral home at 12:15 p.m. to go in procession to the graveside service. An online guest registry is available for the Skeens family at www.gatecityfunerals.com.
