Mr. Bernard L. Skeens, 60, Kingsport, TN passed away, Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Mr. Skeens was born in Russell County, VA on September 4, 1947, a son of Ethel Lena Kiser Skeens and the late Frank Leonard Skeens. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and was retired from AFG Glass Plant.

In addition to his father, Frank L. Skeens, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Glynn Skeens and Earnest Dean Skeens.

Surviving him are his mother, Ethel Lena Skeens, Kingsport, TN, sisters, Ruth Mullinex and husband, Larry, Kingsport, TN and Mary Hittinger and husband, Dwain, Kingsport, TN, brothers, Bobby Skeens and wife, Jo "Sis", Kingsport,TN, Leonard Skeens, Kingsport, TN, Jackie Skeens and wife, Sheila, Roanoke, VA and Mitchell Skeens and wife, Sherry, Kingsport, TN, along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Monday, August 25, 2008 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of his mother. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Kenneth Kiser and the Rev. Ray Bledsoe officiating. Pine Grove Harmony will provide the music.

Military graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at the Taylor Cemetery in the Taylortown community of Scott County, VA by the American Legion Hammond Post #3 of Kingsport, TN and Post #265 of Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard. Keith Skeens, Charlie Skeens, Daniel Begley, Shannon Begley, Brian Skeens and Glen Skeens will serve as pallbearers.
