Mrs. Ruth McMurray Simmons, 88, Hiltons, VA passed away Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mrs. Simmons was born in Scott County, VA on January 8, 1926 to the late Orbin and Lilly Flanagan Taylor.
In addition to her parents, her husband, first husband, Worley Claude McMurray and second husband, Glen Simmons; sisters, Mae Huffman, Goldie Huffman; and brothers, Joe Taylor, Bud Taylor, and Jack Ison preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughters, Betty Ann Mowdy and husband, Clyde, Kingsport, TN and Reva M. Lane, Kingsport, TN; son, James McMurray and wife, Mary, Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Melinda Sublett, Timothy McMurray, Tracy Tipton, Rob Larkin, and Aaron Larkin; great grandchildren, Zachary Sublett, Brittany Davis, Wade McMurray, Hope McMurray, and Loren Tipton; and great great grandchildren, Trey Larkin, Topher Larkin, Braxton Larkin, Kyla Larkin, Eli Larkin, Kylie Davis, and Dawson Davis.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. George Willis officiating. The Midway Singers will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., Wednesday to go in procession to the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Meals on Wheels, 301 Louis Street, Kingsport, TM 37660.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of NOVA Health Care and Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center for their care of Mrs. Simmons.
